P5 visit to the Ulster Museum!
On Tuesday 5th February P5 went to the Ulster Museum in Belfast. We set off bright and breezy looking forward to the day ahead. When we got there we took part in a history workshop all about Ancient Egypt. A lady from the museum taught us about where is Egypt is, what life was like back then and how they made a mummy. It was disgusting – P5 loved it! She let us see and touch all the replicas of artefacts from thousands of years ago eg pillow, comb, make up, canopic jars, shabti figures, amulets and linen bandages.
After the workshop we went to visit the Egyptian section of the museum. We got to see a real Egyptian mummy – Takabuti. It was amazing! We also got to watch videos, read about life in Ancient Egypt and see lots of artefacts. P5 were also able to visit all the other exhibitions in the Ulster Museum. We saw the Ice Age display, Early Man, The Earth, Nature and Sea Creatures, Rocks and Minerals and the Art Gallery.
We had our lunch and then went to the gift shop. It took a while but we finally got through all 26 pupils! P5 bought Pharaoh pens, Egyptian books, hieroglyphic puzzles, toys, games, stickers and of course, sweets! We got the coach home and arrived back to school at 2pm. Everyone had a great day and also learnt lots about Ancient Egypt – A huge success!
