P7 visit The Somme Centre
7th Mar 2025
Thursday's trip to The Somme Centre was enjoyed by all. Pupils were once again fully engaged and thoroughly enjoyed learning about so much of what happened in the lead up to The Battle of The Somme. The tour guides were excellent and helped us all gain a deeper understanding of what was involved in this part of World War One. So many people volunteered from throughout Ireland to help fight and we all felt humbled at the huge sacrifices that were paid for our freedom today. Many thanks once again to Ards and North Down Borough Council for organising this trip and providing transport.
We look forward to the final part of this project when we go to Clandeboye Estate, to see where these soldiers would have trained, and see Helen's Tower and learn about its significance.
Both classes were a pleasure to take out today. Their manners and brilliant behaviour meant that this was a a fantastic morning out for us all.
